Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What should I wear to class?

Dress or close-fitting dance shirt/leotard, black trousers/knee-length skirt. Ballroom dance shoes are required for students after the first semester.

We have a dress code to allow comfortable movement and visibility of body-alignment as well as encourage class focus.

Do I need a partner to enrol with me?

No partner is required.  In addition, we encourage all our students to learn both leading and following parts so everyone may be paired during lesson.

Is my child old enough to join Kansas City Youth Ballroom?

Our age range starts at 4 years old and goes up from there (you are never too old to learn how to dance). If you are older than 18, please join our Adult class.

I missed the beginning of the semester – can I start now?

Of course! Semester tuition will be pro-rated, and we all (classmates included) will help you feel like you have always been part of our dancing family.

Which dances are taught?

Students focus mostly on the International Style Standard and Latin dances:

Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, and Jive.

Do I have to commit to a whole semester?

Indeed. Learning takes time and effort, and we dedicate ourselves to encourage, inspire, and nurture that learning. Mastering a skill requires consistency in practice. We find students progress well with semester commitment and regular attendance in the appropriate class.

We also offer recreational ballroom classes (1 class a week for a month) through 360 Gymnastics and Sylvester Powell Community Center.
